British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has commented on the work of Russian propaganda against support for Ukraine in the United States. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi
with reference to Bloomberg.
Answering a question about the risk of Russian propaganda’s influence on Republicans blocking aid to Ukraine in the House of Representatives, he said: “Lies have time to go halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its pants.”
“Don’t listen to Putin’s lies about Ukraine. This is a free democracy that wants to be an independent sovereign country, that wants to be our ally and our friend, and we must stand by our friends because the world will be watching if we don’t,”
– said the British Foreign Secretary.
Cameron also called on the US Congress to consider assistance to Ukraine as an “investment in American security”.
“90 per cent of what you spend will go to creating jobs here in America, and you can make a decisive contribution to getting Ukraine back on its feet and preventing Putin from winning,” he said,
– he stressed.
Commenting on his meeting with the future US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, the foreign minister described their discussions as “good”, declining to provide details and calling the meeting “private”.
“Whoever is the president of the United States… nobody wants us to be in a situation where Putin wins and Ukraine loses, and we have to deal with that situation. We can help right now,”
– Cameron concluded.
Since autumn 2023, the US Congress has been unable to make a decision on military assistance to Ukraine. on 13 February, the US Senate passed a bill. It provides for assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan totalling $95.34 billion, of which $61 billion is earmarked for Ukraine.
Now the bill must be supported by the US House of Representatives, where Republicans refuse to vote for aid to Ukraine.
