The Kremlin Will Step Up Attacks on Ukraine After the U.S. Election, According to Bloomberg

Moscow no longer believes that U.S. President Donald Trump will be able to force Ukraine to accept a peace agreement on Russia’s terms, Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources who requested anonymity, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the sources, this conviction is driving dictator Vladimir Putin to prolong the war by intensifying attacks on Ukraine and increasing pressure on European countries that support Kyiv.

In addition, anticipating a weakening of the White House’s position following the midterm congressional elections, the Kremlin will seek ways to achieve a further easing of U.S. sanctions against Russia, following the example of the diesel deal announced by Trump in early October, a source close to the Kremlin told the agency.

The source noted that the Russian leadership’s goal is to convince Trump that the U.S. and Russia can conduct joint business without first ending the war in Ukraine. Peace talks involving the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia are scheduled to take place on November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, to which Moscow has once again sent Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to the Russian president.

According to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, this new round of talks will focus on post-war agreements regarding security, de-escalation, humanitarian measures, and the next steps toward peace.

However, there is also a risk that Trump will once again turn his attention to a new operation against Iran, especially if Russia maintains its territorial claims against Kyiv, said Emily Ferris, a research fellow at the London-based think tank RUSI.

“This could jeopardize U.S. military aid to Ukraine, as there is an argument that it should be used against Iran or to support Israel’s air defense,” she told Bloomberg.
