The Defense Procurement Agency (DOTA) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has launched an open procurement procedure to supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with 5,000 pickup trucks. This is the largest number of pickup trucks the government has ever allocated to the military.
This was announced by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“This is one of the first examples of a large-scale supply of pickup trucks to the Armed Forces through an open tender and the largest number ever allocated by the state for the military,” he wrote.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized the importance of this initiative.
Pickup trucks are critically important for the front lines, as they provide logistics, evacuation, unit mobility, and support for drone crews.
“As directed by the president, we are building a fast, transparent, and modern defense procurement system,” Fedorov added.

Transparency and Competition in Procurement
The procurement of pickup trucks will take place through the Prozorro system, which will allow for a wider range of suppliers and the formation of a competitive market. Procurements will be carried out through framework agreements, and the first batches of vehicles are to be delivered by the end of the year.
The minister emphasized the importance of transitioning to tender procedures:
“Summer will be the time for the transition to tender procedures in defense procurement. The next step is to shift drone procurement to tenders.”
In addition, the government has extended the pilot project for defense procurement through the DOT-Chain Defense system until October 24, 2027.
This includes changes in the approach to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) procurement and budget allocation. The need for drones will be determined automatically based on battlefield data, and 80% of funds will be directed exclusively toward solutions that have proven their effectiveness.
The government has also allocated one billion hryvnias to partially compensate for interest on loans and leases for defense industry enterprises, thereby stimulating the sector’s further development.
As a reminder, Ukraine is accelerating the production and supply of weapons for combat aircraft.
