Nighttime Corridor to Moldova and Romania — Who in Odesa Oblast Was Allowed to Travel During Curfew

18 August 00:57

In the Odesa region, transit traffic has been permitted during curfew hours along a designated corridor to the borders with Moldova and Romania. Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, announced the decision, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The new rules apply to all types of vehicles traveling in both directions on national highways from the Kyiv highway through the Odesa bypass to the international border crossing points “Palanka,” “Starokozache,” “Orlivka,” and “Reni.”

At the same time, the curfew in Odesa and the Odesa region as a whole has not been lifted. This is solely an exception for transit travel along a designated route.

Which route is permitted for nighttime travel

The transit corridor begins on the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway. From there, vehicles must take the bypass road around Odesa and proceed along state highways toward the southern part of the region.

Nighttime transit has been permitted to the following checkpoints:

  • “Palanka—Mayaki—Udobne”;
  • “Starokozache — Tudora”;
  • “Orlivka–Isakcha”;
  • “Reni—Jiurjulești.”

Traffic is permitted in both directions. This means that the corridor can be used by drivers heading toward the border as well as by vehicles returning to Ukraine and traveling toward Kyiv.

You can check the current status of the border crossing points on the State Border Guard Service’s interactive map.

Which types of vehicles are covered by the relaxation of restrictions

The Odesa Regional State Administration emphasized that the decision applies to all types of transit vehicles. Therefore, the following vehicles may travel along the designated route during curfew:

  • passenger cars;
  • international and intercity buses;
  • minibuses;
  • trucks;
  • other vehicles traveling in transit to or from border crossing points.

The Regional State Administration did not publish a separate list of driver categories or special passes for such transit in its announcement. The key condition is travel on designated state highways without taking advantage of exemptions to travel through Odesa or other populated areas.

Has the curfew been lifted in Odesa?

The curfew in Odesa and throughout the region remains in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. This is confirmed by reports from the Odesa Regional Police and the latest information on the restrictions in the region.

During these hours, it is prohibited without a valid reason to:

  • travel on the streets of Odesa;
  • be in public places;
  • drive a car within populated areas;
  • deviate from the designated transit route;
  • use a permit for private nighttime trips within the region.

Can officials check documents?

The easing of transit restrictions does not eliminate checks at checkpoints. Police officers, military personnel, and other authorized security officials may stop vehicles, check the driver’s and passengers’ documents, and inspect the vehicle, luggage, or cargo.

While traveling, you should have:

  • a passport or other form of identification;
  • a driver’s license;
  • vehicle registration document;
  • an insurance policy;
  • cargo documents for commercial vehicles;
  • documents required to cross the state border.
