More than half of Germany’s residents support completely closing the borders to refugees: 51% of those surveyed in a joint study conducted by the marketingresearch firm Ipsos and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), reports "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.

According to the survey results, 62% of respondents believe that many asylum seekers and migrants do not actually need protection, but are rather seeking economic opportunities or social benefits.

At the same time, 69% of Germans support the right of people to seek protection from war or persecution in another country. Trinh Tu, director of Ipsos UK, explains this contradiction by noting that in many countries, people generally support the protection of refugees but are skeptical about how it is implemented.

Only 30% of German survey participants believe that migrants are successfully integrating into German society, and only 35% acknowledge their positive contribution to society.

According to the survey results, the highest level of support for accepting refugees is found in Sweden and the Netherlands (78%), followed by Spain (76%).
