Widespread Power Outages on July 15: Which Regions Were Affected
15 July 11:49
Due to Russian shelling and severe weather, dozens of communities in Ukraine have been left without power. As of the morning of July 15, new power outages have been reported in nine regions. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the National Electricity Company “Ukrenergo.”
Where power is out following Russian attacks
According to Ukrenergo, as a result of the latest Russian strikes, some consumers in the following areas are without power:
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
- Sumy Oblast;
- Kharkiv Oblast.
Utility workers have already begun emergency repair work on the damaged sections of the power grid where it does not pose a threat to the lives of personnel.
The severe weather has also left more than 50 communities without power
In addition to enemy attacks, severe weather conditions contributed to the outages.
Due to thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds, more than 50 settlements have been completely or partially left without power in:
- Ternopil Oblast;
- Cherkasy Oblast;
- Kyiv Oblast;
- Sumy Oblast;
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
- Kirovohrad Oblast;
- Mykolaiv Oblast.
Distribution system operator crews are already repairing the damaged power lines.
Electricity consumption has risen sharply
Ukrenergo also reported that as of this morning, electricity consumption had increased by 3.4% compared to the same period the previous day.
The main reasons cited are rising air temperatures and the widespread use of air conditioners by Ukrainians.
To reduce the load on the power grid, energy experts recommend shifting the use of the most energy-intensive electrical appliances to the period between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently.
