German Businesses Under Attack by Russia: Puma Assets and Ships in the Black Sea Damaged

Russia’s massive attacks continue to strike not only Ukrainian infrastructure but also international businesses. During the shelling on August 5, assets belonging to the German companies Liqui Moly and Puma were damaged, as were cargo ships in the Black Sea.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Deutsche Welle.
Russian drones attacked a German ship near Odesa
One of the most high-profile incidents was the strike on the bulk carrier Emil, owned by the Hamburg-based shipping company Johann M.K. Blumenthal.
According to Bild, the vessel was approximately 21 nautical miles from the port of Odesa when it was attacked by several Russian drones.
As a result of the attack:
- the ship lost its ability to maneuver;
- some of its technical systems were disabled;
- a fire broke out on board.
After the evacuation of the crew began, Russian military forces carried out a second drone attack. According to preliminary reports, no crew members were injured.
The vessel flies the Liberian flag but is owned by a German shipowner.
A sailor was killed on another civilian vessel
Another vessel affected was the dry cargo ship Mera Queen, which was transporting grain under the flag of Guinea-Bissau.
According to Ukrainian authorities, one crew member was killed as a result of the Russian strike.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack on the two civilian vessels, claiming without evidence that they were allegedly carrying military cargo.

Liqui Moly’s Central Warehouse in Kyiv Destroyed
During the nighttime attack on Kyiv, Russian troops also destroyed the central warehouse of the official Ukrainian distributor of the German lubricant manufacturer Liqui Moly.
According to company representative Sini Atay:
- none of the employees were injured;
- the losses are estimated at several million euros;
- the central logistics warehouse has been completely destroyed.
The company stated that it currently has no plans to rebuild this specific facility, but is working to ensure the continuity of product deliveries to Ukrainian customers.
“Together, we are working to minimize the impact of the incident and continue to ensure deliveries to our customers,” Liqui Moly noted.
Puma’s assets were also affected
According to Deutsche Welle, Puma’s logistics assets in Ukraine were also damaged during the Russian strikes.
The company has not yet disclosed details regarding the extent of the damage.
Attacks on logistics infrastructure are causing global concern
Following a series of strikes on civilian shipping, the situation in the Black Sea remains the focus of international attention.
Earlier, the UN Security Council held a special meeting on Russian attacks on civilian vessels, highlighting the risks to global food security and international trade.
In recent days, Russian forces have also struck major logistics centers of Ukrainian and international companies, including Rozetka, Nova Poshta, Epicenter, Bosch, BookChef, Millennium, JTI, Imperial Brands, and other businesses.
