A Basis for Negotiations: Zelenskyy Proposes a Ceasefire to Putin in the Air and Energy Sectors
3 August 17:15
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is proposing that Russia implement a ceasefire in the air and in the energy sector, as well as “freeze” the war along the front lines. This should serve as the basis for starting negotiations, according to Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine, who made the statement on DW, as reported by [Komersant].
The presidential adviser said that Kyiv is ready to consider various formats for ceasing hostilities and for the negotiation process, if this would help achieve peace.
“Let’s get the emphasis right here. Yes, we are open to any options—the president has said this—and are proposing various formats, including a ceasefire, an aerial ceasefire, and an energy ceasefire. There’s a whole range of formats to be found there. Plus, a ‘freeze on the war’ along the front line is being proposed in order to continue difficult negotiations,” Podolyak said.
According to him, Zelenskyy has also repeatedly emphasized his readiness for face-to-face talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the most complex issues.
“Furthermore, the President of Ukraine has repeatedly stated that he is ready for a face-to-face meeting (with Putin—ed.) to discuss complex issues,” the official said.
