Millions of books were destroyed by fire in Kharkiv: The “Ranоk” publishing house reported on the losses caused by the shelling

As a result of a targeted drone attack on August 1, the warehouses of the Ranok publishing house and the Knigoland distribution center were burned down. According to preliminary estimates, 8 million books, including school textbooks, were destroyed, as reported by Viktor Kruglov, CEO of the Ranok publishing house, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“This is the greatest loss to Ukraine’s book infrastructure since the start of the full-scale war. We need to replace millions of lost copies so they can reach the children and adults who are waiting for them,” Kruglov wrote.
According to him, the attack has reportedly destroyed approximately 600,000 textbooks, 28,000 book titles, and 8 million copies. The total damage from the strike amounts to approximately 1 billion hryvnia.
It is noted that the fire has been contained but has not yet been fully extinguished.
Viktor Kruglov explained how people can help the publishing house:
- spread the word about Russia’s crime;
- buy physical books published by “Ranok” at “KnygoLand” bookstores or other retailers, or on the publisher’s website;
- pre-order books on the “Ranok” or “KnygoLand” websites;
- purchase e-books on the website or other convenient book platforms.
“We’ve lost a lot. But we don’t want to lose what matters most—the ability to continue creating books for Ukrainian children, printing textbooks, and supporting education and culture even when the enemy is trying to destroy them. Any support is important to us today,” Kruglov wrote.
The warehouse also stored books from publishers that are part of the RNK-Ranok group of companies, including Fabula, Georges, Shche Odnu Storinku, Readberry, Korali Books, Varvar, and others.

Despite the enormous losses, the publishing house is striving to resume operations and is calling for the widest possible dissemination of information about this latest crime committed by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian education and culture.
Viktor Kruglov reported the “strike” on the morning of August 1. He also wrote that the employees are alive and unharmed. According to Kruglov, two missile drones struck “one location.” A fire broke out at the site of the “strike,” covering an area of 10,000 square meters. The “Knyholand” distribution center was located on the premises of the warehouse building.
Earlier, as a result of a massive attack by the Russian Federation on the night of July 19, the warehouse of the Knigolav publishing house was destroyed, and approximately 250,000 books were burned.
As a result of the attack on Kyiv on July 2, 800,000 books were destroyed at a warehouse where products from the Kyiv-based publishing house BookChef were stored.
