A First in the Fuel Retail Industry: The WOG Chain Has Introduced Electronic Receipts at Its Gas Stations

3 July 18:03

The WOG gas station chain was the first in the fuel retail industry to give customers the option to choose whether to print their receipt or save it digitally. The chain announced this on its Facebook page, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

As noted, this feature can now be enabled in the WOG PRIDE app. To do so:

  • select the “Do not print paper receipts” option in your profile settings;
  • in the “History” section, open any transaction and tap “Opt out of paper receipts.”

Electronic receipts are available at all WOG gas stations for any purchases—from fuel to coffee and hot dogs—as well as for payments made with fuel cards.

It’s worth noting that every day, the WOG network prints up to 200,000 receipts on thermal paper, which contains a special chemical coating and cannot be recycled through standard recycling processes. Over the course of a year, this amounts to about 55 metric tons of paper, the production of which requires more than a thousand trees and about 2 million liters of fresh water. That is why the transition to electronic receipts helps reduce this type of waste and protect the environment.

In addition to the environmental benefits, electronic receipts eliminate the need to store paper copies and make it easier to track expenses.
