Weather on May 1: Where in Ukraine will it be cold and rainy

1 May 02:28

On Friday, May 1, cool weather will persist across Ukraine. In most regions, forecasters predict nighttime frosts in the air, and in the south—frosts on the ground. During the day, temperatures will generally rise to 8–13°C. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to forecasters, a cold air mass is still lingering over Ukraine. Due to clear skies at night, the lower atmosphere will cool rapidly, so frosts are expected in most regions.

In the southern part of the country, frosts are expected mainly on the ground, while the air temperature at night will remain slightly higher.

Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv region

In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, there will be no precipitation on May 1. Cool weather is expected with night frosts on the ground.

Why frosts are dangerous

Frosts in early May can be dangerous for orchards, berry fields, seedlings, and early vegetable crops. Flowering fruit trees—apricots, cherries, sweet cherries, plums, pears, and apple trees—are most at risk.

Even a brief drop in temperature below freezing can damage blossoms or ovaries, which will subsequently affect the harvest.
