Weather in Ukraine on May 20: Thunderstorms are expected in most regions, with hail and squalls in some areas

On Wednesday, May 20, unstable weather is expected in Ukraine. Rain is expected in most regions, and thunderstorms are forecast for most of the country during the day, except in the west. Heavy rainfall, hail, and squalls are possible in some regions.

Where will thunderstorms occur on May 20?
According to the forecast, moderate rain is expected in Ukraine on Wednesday. Thunderstorms are forecast for most regions during the day.
According to the preliminary forecast, the western regions are expected to avoid thunderstorms, where the weather will be cooler.
The most severe weather conditions are expected:
- in the southern part of Ukraine;
- in most central regions;
- in the Zhytomyr region.
In some places there, heavy rain, hail, and squalls of 15–20 m/s are possible.

Air temperature in Ukraine
Despite the rain and thunderstorms, it will be warm in most regions.
Air temperatures will be:

It will be warmest in the central, southern, and eastern regions, where daytime temperatures may reach 27°.
Wind and hazardous conditions
On May 20, the wind will be predominantly from the north, 5–10 m/s.
However, during thunderstorms in some regions, sudden gusts of wind are possible—15–20 m/s. Such squalls can complicate traffic, damage tree branches, power lines, or lightweight structures.
Weather in Kyiv and the region
Short-lived rain is also forecast for Kyiv and the Kyiv region on May 20.
A thunderstorm is possible during the day.
Air temperature:
- in the Kyiv region at night — 12…17°, during the day — 22…27°;
- in Kyiv at night — around 15°, during the day — 23…25°.
The wind in the capital will be from the north, 5–10 m/s.
