They flew 1,800 km: Ukrainian drones reached the Urals for the first time

25 April 16:20

Ukrainian attack drones struck Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk in the central Urals for the first time. The attack was reported by Denis Pasler, governor of the Sverdlovsk region, and Alexei Teksler, governor of the Chelyabinsk region, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing “Military.

“The drones traveled about 1,700–1,800 km to these cities, remaining undetected by Russian air defense systems,” the publication writes.

It is worth noting that the flight range could exceed the figures cited, as the measurement of distance from Ukraine’s state border does not account for the actual launch points.

This complicates accurate calculations, so the actual distance may turn out to be significantly greater.

Recall that Russian officials, including Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, effectively acknowledged in 2026 the increased range of Ukrainian UAVs, which allows them to reach targets deep within Russian territory.

In fact, this is not the first time Ukraine has carried out attacks at distances exceeding 1,300–1,400 km. Previously, strike drones repeatedly struck targets in the city of Orsk, located 1,400 km from the border.

This city has been the target of successful raids despite its significant distance from Ukrainian territory. For instance, in October 2025, “Lyuty” kamikaze drones attacked the “Orsknefteorgsintez” oil refinery.

Strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russia

As a reminder, throughout April, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on targets within Russian territory.

At the beginning of the month, SBS operators, together with the SBU, struck the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, after which production there ceased.

On April 5, following an attack by Ukrainian drones, the Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery—one of the largest in Russia—suspended operations.

On April 16, the SBU reported a strike on the Tuapse Oil Refinery and oil transportation infrastructure facilities in the port of Tuapse.

On the night of April 18, the Defense Forces struck four key facilities in Russia’s oil refining industry simultaneously.

Also, on the night of April 23, drones from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center attacked the “Gorky” oil pumping station in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
