Young men with chronic illnesses and drug addictions are being drafted into the “Skelya” regiment, even though their medical records classify them as fit for service. This was reported in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

The officer described the specifics of the unit’s staffing, noting that the regiment does not independently select conscripts but instead accepts servicemen referred to them by TCC staff.

“Here’s how we’re replenishing our ranks today. There’s the TCC—they take people in, and then they bring the guys to us. They hand them over to us. We replenish our ranks with whoever comes to us. Everyone. So he arrives with a certificate stating that he’s fit for service. And only later, during his service, do we find out what problems each person actually has,” the officer stated.

According to him, the regiment employs psychologists who help new arrivals adapt to military service. At the same time, as the officer notes, certain cases require additional attention due to the servicemembers’ health conditions or addictions.

“Take drug addicts, for example—they come to us with clean records. And we work with them. We work with each one individually,” “The Accountant” explained.

The military officer noted that work with such individuals begins immediately upon their arrival at the unit, when the command has the opportunity to assess their actual physical and psychological condition.

As a reminder, the publication “Babel” previously released an investigation into non-combat deaths in the “Skelya” regiment. The journalists handed over all the materials to investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR). A criminal case has been opened. The regiment states that it is cooperating with the investigation and supports the effort to establish all the circumstances.

Statements from the State Bureau of Investigation

The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), for its part, reported that “there was no information about possible torture in ‘Skelya’ from either the command or other agencies.”

At the same time, the Bureau’s investigators “are evaluating the actions of each commander.”

Position of the General Staff

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, commenting on the situation, stated the following:

“There must be transparency, as much as possible, because such cases cannot be swept under the rug—they must be addressed immediately in accordance with the law, through legal channels. On the one hand, we must not create a media frenzy around this regiment, because it is a combat regiment with traditions that emerged and were forged during the war; it fights on the most challenging sections of the front, and the soldiers of this regiment have repeatedly demonstrated examples of courage, resilience, heroism, and bravery while carrying out combat missions. And we must not distort this regiment’s combat history because of the actions of these isolated criminals, who cast a shadow not only on the regiment, as well as on the Army, the Armed Forces, and the assault troops,” Syrskyi said in an interview with TSN.

As reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", pilots from the “Skelya” regiment forced the occupier to surrender using a drone.
