On Tuesday, July 7, the body of 10-year-old Sofia Potemkina was found in the Odesa region; she had been swept out to sea by the current on June 19, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the National Police Headquarters.

Local residents found the child’s body in the water near the shore, in the vicinity of the town of Pivdenne.

It should be noted that on the morning of June 19, the girl was spending time at the beach with her great-grandmother near the village of Sychavka. They were swimming in an unauthorized area where swimming is prohibited. While swimming, a strong current began to carry the child, who was on an inflatable ring, out to the open sea. The great-grandmother tried to rescue the girl on her own but was unable to do so. Due to the strong current, the girl was quickly swept away from the shore. Despite search and rescue efforts, she was not found alive.

The body has been sent for a forensic medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.
