EU sanctions against Russia: China demands that Chinese companies be removed from the list
27 April 01:30
China’s Ministry of Commerce has lodged a “strong protest” over the inclusion of Chinese entities in the EU’s 20th round of sanctions against Russia. Beijing is demanding their immediate removal from the list and has warned of “necessary countermeasures.” This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Reuters.
What China didn’t like
The EU’s 20th sanctions package directly targeted Chinese companies for the first time. The restrictions apply to entities accused of supplying Russia with dual-use goods and components for the military-industrial complex.
Beijing officially called this decision a violation of agreements between Chinese and EU leaders and said it undermines mutual trust in bilateral relations.
Threats against Brussels
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce warned that it would take “necessary measures” to protect Chinese companies.
The ministry placed full responsibility for the consequences on the European Union.
The EU’s 20th package of sanctions against Russia was adopted on April 22. In addition to Chinese entities, it also affected other third countries that supply critical technologies to Russia.
