The U.S. Has Reimposed Sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil: Details

28 June 11:17

After several postponements, the U.S. has reinstated sanctions against the Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil; the most recent easing of the sanctions regime expired on June 16. This was announced by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President’s Representative on Sanctions Policy, in a comment to “Ukrinform,” as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The U.S. sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, imposed in October, have once again taken full effect after several temporary postponements. The latest waiver expired on June 16 and was not extended,” he said.

As a reminder, in March, the U.S. temporarily eased restrictions on Russian oil due to concerns about a negative impact on the global energy market. This decision was linked to risks to energy supplies amid the war between Israel and Iran and threats to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The reinstatement of full sanctions means a return to a stricter regime of restrictions on Russia’s two largest oil companies.
