The U.S. Mint has begun minting a new commemorative one-dollar coin featuring President Donald Trump. Its release is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, which will be celebrated this year. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced this on social media platform X, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Bassent announced the start of production and added that the new dollar coin is intended to serve as a symbol of American history and commemorate the nation’s anniversary.
The released photos show that the obverse of the coin features a profile portrait of Trump. Also engraved on the obverse are the words “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the years “1776-2026,” which symbolize the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

The reverse side of the coin features a bald eagle—the national symbol of the United States—as well as the Great Seal of the United States and the inscription “ONE DOLLAR.”

Although the coin is called “gold,” it is not made of gold. It is a gold-colored dollar coin minted as part of a special commemorative series.
According to U.S. media reports, the new coin is expected to enter circulation this fall.
Criticism of the Trump Coin
The coin’s release has already sparked debate in the U.S. Critics point out that, traditionally, American currency does not feature images of living people.
Donald Scarinci, a member of the advisory committee, stated that the $1 coin would be a clear violation of the law, which prohibits the depiction of a sitting or former president on a dollar coin until three years after his death.
