Ukraine Attacked the Oil Refinery in Syzran: What Are the Consequences?

On the morning of Sunday, July 12, the Russians again reported an attack by unidentified drones. Today, the drones reached Syzran and attacked one of the local businesses. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, as cited by "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to Vyacheslav Fedoryshchev, governor of the Samara Region, a drone threat alert was issued for the region at 3:07 a.m. that night.

He did not provide any further details. However, around 5 a.m., footage of the oil refinery in Syzran began appearing on social media. It is claimed that the drones struck the refinery specifically; the footage shows a black column of smoke and a fire.

As a reminder, in May, Reuters reported that the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region had temporarily suspended operations following a Ukrainian drone attack on May 21. It is known that the strike hit one of the facility’s key units.

Also, according to the FT, Russia may have already lost between 20% and 40% of its oil refining capacity as a result of Ukraine’s strikes. Furthermore, the fuel crisis has already affected 50 million Russians.
