Ukraine exported 15.5 million tons of agricultural products: what it sells most and to whom

30 April 13:43

In the first quarter of 2026, Ukraine exported 15.5 million tons of agricultural products worth a total of $6.3 billion.

This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the ministry, agricultural products accounted for 62% of total exports.

On an annual basis, the volume of shipments grew by only 1.2%, while export revenue increased by 8.3%, or $482 million.

“We see a clear trend: Ukraine is gradually moving away from the raw materials export model and increasing shipments of processed products. This allows us to generate greater foreign exchange revenue even with stable volumes. Our task is to consolidate this trend by developing processing and expanding access to foreign markets,” said Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

Where Ukraine exports the most

The export geography remains stable: EU countries accounted for 49% of shipments, the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) – 20%, Turkey – 12%, and other countries – 18%.

At the same time, Turkey has significantly strengthened its position: its share rose from 9% to 12%, and the value of exports increased by $242 million, according to ministry data.

It is noted that the export structure remains concentrated: the top 5 commodity categories accounted for 68% of revenue, and the top 10 for 81%. Corn, sunflower oil, and wheat remain the leaders.

“At the same time, corn showed growth in both physical (18%) and monetary (17%) terms, largely due to strong demand from Turkey. Sunflower oil demonstrated a 20% increase in revenue with a minimal increase in volume (3%),” the report states.

What about wheat and oilseed exports?

At the same time, wheat exports fell by 35%, primarily due to a record harvest in EU countries. The sharpest decline was recorded in exports to Europe (–82%).

However, a recovery is evident within the quarter: exports rose from 536,000 tons in January to 869,000 tons in March (62%), creating the conditions for full utilization of the EU quota in 2026, the ministry noted.

The ministry separately highlighted the transformation of oilseed exports. In particular, within the soybean segment, processed products (meal and oil) showed a smaller decline than raw beans.

In the rapeseed segment, the changes are even more striking: rapeseed oil exports increased more than 30-fold compared to the same period last year.

According to the ministry, overall, the results of the first quarter of 2026 indicate qualitative changes in agricultural exports: Ukraine is gradually shifting from exporting raw materials to products with higher added value. The government will continue to work on expanding trade opportunities and supporting the processing industry, which is a key condition for sustainable economic growth.
