This year, Ukraine will receive 1 billion euros in defense aid from Belgium and Spain. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense following a conversation between Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and the defense ministers of Belgium and Spain on the eve of the “Ramstein” meeting, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How much aid will Ukraine receive?
According to the Ministry of Defense, Belgium and Spain will each allocate 1 billion euros in defense aid to Ukraine in 2026.
Thus, the total amount of announced support from these two countries amounts to 2 billion euros.
What was agreed upon ahead of “Ramstein”
The Ministry of Defense noted that during the negotiations, the parties aligned key areas of cooperation. These primarily include:
- strengthening air defense;
- developing drone capabilities;

What else will Belgium provide
In addition to one billion euros in aid, Belgium will also provide Ukraine with additional F-16 fighter jets.
Furthermore, the Belgian side will ensure the supply of spare parts for existing aircraft. This is crucial for maintaining the combat readiness of the air force and the stable operation of the aircraft already transferred.
What Ukraine and Spain agreed on
Ukraine and Spain separately agreed to develop cooperation between their defense industries.
In particular, the parties discussed cooperation within the framework of the European SAFE mechanism. Additionally, Ukraine offered the opportunity to test Spanish drones in combat conditions.
This means that cooperation with Spain could go beyond traditional military aid and evolve into deeper collaboration in the field of defense technologies and manufacturing.
Why this aid is important
The billion-dollar aid packages from Belgium and Spain are of particular importance to Ukraine as it prepares for new decisions by its allies in the “Ramstein” format.
Support in the form of funds, weapons, aircraft, spare parts, the development of drone capabilities, and cooperation in the defense industry strengthens Ukraine’s position both on the front lines and in the long term.
What are the priority areas?
Based on the results of the negotiations, several key priorities can be identified:
- strengthening the air defense system;
- developing unmanned technologies;
- enhancing artillery capabilities;
- expanding aviation support;
- cooperation with European defense manufacturers.
These areas currently form the basis of new assistance from partners.
