JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” has put three more children’s railcars into service, bringing the total number to 16, the company’s press service reported on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Three more new children’s cars are set to begin service, in addition to the three created this spring in partnership with Ukrzaliznytsia and Visa,” the statement said.
In total, the children’s cars operate on popular routes from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, and towns in the Carpathians, as well as to Chełm in Poland, Chișinău in Moldova, and other cities.
The company reported that the cars are equipped with children’s handrails, padded safety rails on the upper berths, and playpens for playing and sleeping. The trains also feature a fairy-tale forest-themed interior, themed bedding, and an evening audio story.
“We love creating projects that give Ukrainian families a unique experience, emotions, and care that’s thought out down to the smallest detail,” the statement reads.
In addition, the cars are equipped with changing tables, step stools, and special seats for children in the restrooms. Conductors have baby food warmers and a special children’s menu.
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that children’s cars are intended for passengers traveling with children, and the fare for adults corresponds to the rates for cars of a similar class. Children up to and including age 13 travel on a discounted child’s ticket, while infants travel for free.
It is also specified that the rules for free travel without a separate seat depend on the destination: within Ukraine—up to and including age 5; to/from Moldova—up to and including age 4; to/from Poland—up to and including age 3.
