Prices for fresh cabbage are falling rapidly in Ukraine: the main reasons
20 May 18:12
According to analysts at the EastFruit project, the Ukrainian market is seeing a downward trend in prices for new-crop white cabbage, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
Producers cite a seasonal increase in market supply of this product, as well as relatively subdued demand, as the main reasons for the negative price adjustments in this segment.

As of today, 2026 harvest cabbage is being offered for sale at 34–40 UAH/kg ($0.77–0.91/kg), which is on average 18% cheaper than at the end of last week.
First and foremost, farmers are forced to actively lower prices for the new cabbage harvest due to oversupply: most Ukrainian farms have already begun mass harvesting of early cabbage. The situation is also complicated by relatively slow sales of this product. Wholesale companies and retail chains prefer to purchase in small batches, given the short shelf life of this product.
At the same time, farmers who have stocks of last year’s cabbage of acceptable quality continue to raise their selling prices. Thus, as of today, wholesale batches of white cabbage from the 2025 harvest are being sold at 10–17 UAH/kg ($0.23–0.39/kg), whereas a week earlier prices ranged from 8–15 UAH/kg ($0.18–0.34/kg) depending on quality and volume. According to market participants, demand for last year’s cabbage of comparable quality remains stable.
At the same time, despite the sharp drop in prices, new-crop cabbage in Ukraine is currently selling for an average of 14% more than during the same period last year. Experts attribute this difference to a rather cold and prolonged spring.
