Potato prices in Ukraine are falling: what’s behind the trend

5 July 23:19

According to data from the EastFruit project’s daily monitoring, Ukraine has seen another drop in potato selling prices this week, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the producers themselves, farmers in virtually all regions of the country have now begun harvesting on a large scale, which has led to an increase in the supply of this product on the market.

As of today, Ukrainian producers are offering potatoes for sale at 12–20 UAH/kg ($0.27–0.45/kg), which is on average 15% cheaper than a week earlier. The main reason for the decline in potato prices is the so-called seasonal factor, as market supply of this product increases practically every day. At the same time, the quality of the products on offer often remains rather low, which also puts downward pressure on prices in this segment.

It is worth noting that during the same period last year, the price of potatoes in Ukraine was, on average, 16% higher than it is today. At the same time, the project’s analysts do not rule out that the downward trend in prices in this segment may continue as the supply of potatoes on the market increases.
