Prices for raspberries and currants are following different trends this year: what’s happening in Ukraine’s berry market

5 July 22:09

Early July marked the start of the new berry season in Ukraine, bringing both positive and mixed news for consumers and producers. Despite the expected increase in harvest volumes, pricing for popular berries is showing mixed trends, which is influencing market strategies and farmers’ behavior. AgroReview reports on this, as relayed by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Rising Raspberry Prices: Causes and Seasonal Trends

In 2026, analysts note a significant increase in the price of raspberries. Denis Mironov, an expert with the “Berry Farming of Ukraine” association, emphasizes that retail prices for this berry have already risen by 10–15% compared to the previous year, despite a 4–8% increase in the harvest. The main factors behind this increase are higher logistics costs, rising energy prices, and higher labor costs during the harvest. Demand for high-quality raspberries remains high, allowing producers to keep prices at a higher level.

Price Stability for Currants and Outlook for the Berry Market

Unlike raspberries, currant prices have remained virtually unchanged compared to the previous year. This is due to sufficient supply in the domestic market and balanced demand, as well as currants’ lower dependence on storage costs. According to farmers, this makes currants more affordable for ordinary consumers even amid a general rise in agricultural prices.

Key factors affecting the cost of berries:

  • Rising harvesting and transportation costs;
  • Higher energy costs for cooling and processing berries;
  • Steady demand from processing companies and retail chains.

The Ukrainian berry market is demonstrating its ability to grow even amid economic instability. Although prices for certain products are rising, increased yields are making it possible to meet domestic demand and continue export shipments.

The 2026 season demonstrates that even amid rising yields, external economic factors can drive up prices. While raspberries have already become more expensive, the stable price of currants remains a significant advantage for Ukrainian consumers, ensuring that this berry remains affordable throughout the summer.
