5 July 14:03

On the night of Sunday, July 5, the grave of the prominent Ukrainian writer, scholar, and professor Bohdan Lepky was vandalized at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków. Georgiy Tykhyi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters about this, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to “Interfax-Ukraine.”

According to Tykhyi, a bas-relief of the writer was stolen from the tombstone.

“We view this act of vandalism as a deliberate provocation aimed at further inflaming hostility between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland,” Tykhyi explained to journalists.

He added that the Consulate General of Ukraine in Kraków immediately contacted the police, the Rakowicki District Administration, and the Kraków city authorities, calling on them to conduct a thorough investigation, establish all the circumstances of the crime, identify those involved in its commission, take immediate measures to return or restore the stolen bas-relief, and ensure adequate security at the burial site.

“We expect the prompt collection of all evidence related to this act of vandalism, the prosecution of those responsible in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Poland, and the implementation of effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future,” Tykhyi concluded.
