“A Veteran, Not Kim”: Vitaliy Kim Responds to Criticism of His Appointment as Minister of Veterans Affairs

Vitaliy Kim, the newly appointed head of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, who previously served as head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, has responded to the criticism. According to him, he is aware of people’s reactions but is asking for support in his new position, as he already has a plan of action. Vitaliy Kim announced this on his Telegram channel, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Vitaliy Kim was appointed head of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs on July 16 during a vote on the new cabinet. However, he has faced criticism over his appointment, as he is not a veteran and has never served in the military.
“I see and hear what’s going on. I understand, and in part, you’re right. But since 2022, my life has revolved around the war. A lot has changed in my life—radically. Even though I’m in a civilian position, despite that, this is my whole life right now. I decided for myself that I would be useful here, and, fully aware of the responsibility, I made this decision,” the official noted.
According to Kim, over the course of the week he received dozens of proposals, suggestions for changes to government programs, and reports of issues.
“I’ll continue to do this, communicating with both the veteran community and the military. I understand what needs to be done and changed systematically to make a difference. That’s why I’m actually asking for your support. I’m giving myself a year to implement my plans and deliver the results our veterans need,” the minister said.
He plans to present his plans in the near future and work out budget allocations with the ministry’s leadership, the minister noted.
