Due to enemy attacks on the energy sector: power outages in six regions of Ukraine

20 April 11:17

As of the morning of April 20, some consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions remain temporarily without power due to shelling of energy infrastructure facilities.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy andUkrenergo, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Energy workers are working around the clock to restore power to all customers as quickly as possible.

No power restrictions are expected on April 20.

Electricity consumption is rising.

Today, April 20, as of 9:30 a.m., consumption was 3.7% higher than at the same time on the previous business day—Friday.

The reason for the changes is a cold snap in most regions of Ukraine, as well as cloudy weather in the western, parts of the central, and northern regions, which leads to low efficiency of residential solar power plants and a corresponding increase in energy consumption from the general grid.

Uninterrupted power until fall

A scheduled maintenance campaign is underway at Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, but a return to power outage schedules this summer is not expected. However, everything will depend on the weather and enemy attacks on the Ukrainian power grid.

Ukraine can avoid widespread power outages at least until fall if the power grid does not experience significant shortages due to extreme heat, Olga Buslavets, Ukraine’s energy minister in 2020, told Delo.ua.

Buslavets noted that the situation with blackouts in the summer will depend on temperature conditions, as hot weather increases air conditioning consumption. At the same time, a large-scale maintenance campaign will take place this summer, particularly at nuclear power plant units.

The period from September to October should also be quite comfortable and free of power outages. However, with the start of the heating season, everything will depend on high-quality work at all levels in preparation for it, the former minister emphasized.
