The driver who crashed into an underpass in Kyiv, killing four people, faces up to ten years in prison

The driver of a Mercedes who caused a fatal traffic accident in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv the day before has been notified of the charges against him. He faces up to ten years in prison. This was reported by the Kyiv Police Press Service on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The driver who caused a fatal accident yesterday in the Solomyanskyi district has been charged. The driver of the Mercedes crashed at high speed into an underpass where people were present, fatally injuring four citizens and injuring three others. He faces up to ten years in prison for his actions,” the statement reads.
The police remind that a 12-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and two police officers aged 21 and 23 were killed in the crash. Two men and a woman were also injured and are currently in the hospital.
The person responsible for the accident is a 49-year-old resident of the Kherson region.

“According to the expert report, he was sober at the time of the accident,” the agency notes.
Kyiv police investigators detained the driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, have charged him under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules or transport operation rules by persons driving vehicles, if such violation resulted in the death of several people). The penalty under this article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment.
Investigators served the suspect with a motion to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention.
