A vote on Khmara’s nomination for defense minister could take place as early as this week

As early as this week, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine may consider the appointment of Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense. Member of Parliament Mariana Bezuhla reported this and stated that she would not support this nomination if the matter were put to a vote, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“If Yevhen Khmara is nominated for the position of defense minister this week, I will not vote for him, as I have stated previously. I have voted in favor of 99% of the President’s proposals from the very beginning for seven years now, but everyone has their red lines. Where is the line? This is my position, and I am stating it openly,” Bezuhla emphasized.

The lawmaker also expressed skepticism about the ability of parliamentarians to oppose personnel decisions, while simultaneously criticizing the nominee himself for his willingness to leave military service for the sake of a political career.

“I doubt that many colleagues will refuse to comply if Khmara himself is willing to remove his epaulets… In fact, under these circumstances, he is forsaking an officer’s honor in order to continue participating in political infighting—or rather, to continue serving as their tool and figurehead. It’s a shame,” she added.

Finally, Mariana Bezuhla commented on the appearance of the potential head of the defense ministry:

“P.S. Look how handsome he is, what a gaze—he’s even stuck on his patch already.”

Maryana Bezuhla has rejoined the "Servant of the People" parliamentary faction, Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported. She had previously left the faction in 2024 at her own request. Now, according to MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak, Bezuhla has returned.
