Tokayev’s Call to “Freeze” the War in Ukraine: The Kremlin Issues a Statement

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian dictator had responded to the Kazakh president’s proposal to “freeze” the war in Ukraine. According to him, this could happen by the end of the day, but there is a condition. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, as relayed by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Peskov said that during a meeting between representatives of the two countries, Vladimir Putin gave Kassym-Jomart Tokayev a “detailed” account of the war’s progress.
When asked how Putin reacted to Tokayev’s proposal to “freeze” the war, the Kremlin spokesman replied that this is impossible until Russia achieves its goals.

He added that everything could come to a halt even today if Ukraine makes certain decisions.
“The ‘freeze’ of the conflict in Ukraine proposed by Tokayev is impossible given Kyiv’s position. The main condition for Russia is to achieve its goal. Everything could come to a halt by the end of the day if the Kyiv regime makes the appropriate decisions,” Peskov said.

As a reminder, Tokayev told Putin that he has been receiving a great many appeals, in connection with which he proposed to him to “freeze” the war and return to the Istanbul 2.0 negotiations, during which “significant results” were achieved.
At the same time, he echoed some of Moscow’s rhetoric. In particular, he called Ukrainians and Russians “brotherly peoples” and said that the current war “plays into the hands of Russia’s opponents.”
