Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, who is actively preparing for a new post of ambassador to the UK, does not rule out running for the presidency of Ukraine in the future. This was reported by political blogger and activist Karl Volokh on his Facebook page, referring to his meeting with Zaluzhnyi.
Volokh said that Zaluzhnyi is feeling quite well, “he is at large and no restrictions have been applied to him – despite the fears of opposition bloggers”.
“He is in a bad mood – because of the news from the frontline, which, of course, depresses him more than it does us,”
– Volokh said.
He noted that Zaluzhnyi is preparing to leave for the UK in May and is undergoing very intensive training.
According to him, Zaluzhnyi does not rule out running for president, but he is not ready to talk about his political career until the war is over.
“He believes that his entry into politics at this stage could destabilise the situation and be detrimental to the country. He does not rule out running for president in the future,”
– volokh added.
He also asked the former commander-in-chief about possible criminal proceedings against him, in particular, “for sabotaging the preparations for the invasion”.
“When asked directly whether he was aware of the danger of a criminal case where Zelenskyy-Yermak would blame him for sabotaging the preparations for the invasion, he answered yes: “Legally, we are ready to defend ourselves. I can be locked up for ‘lawlessness’, but I’m willing to risk that. But I am not willing to risk my name being associated with destabilising the situation in the country and threatening sovereignty,”
– Volokh said.
As you know, on 8 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
