Building number 19 of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” is finally returned to state ownership. This was reported in the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, writes "Komersant Ukrainian"

State bailiffs executed the decision of the Supreme court with the participation of law enforcement agencies.

Previously, the building was used by the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.

Why was the building returned to the state?

Building No. 19 is an architectural monument of local importance and is on the balance of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”. In 1996 it was given to UTOPIC for free use to house the funds of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine. However, the organization used part of the premises for activities not related to the museum.

on April 21, 2023, according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 359, the decision to transfer building No. 19 to UTOPIK was canceled. The public organization appealed this decision in court, but on October 9, 2024 the Northern Economic Court of Appeal satisfied the claim of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” and decided to return the building to the state.

on January 21, 2025 the Supreme Court confirmed this decision, finally obliging UTOPIC to vacate the premises.

What will happen to building No. 19?

According to Sergei Belyaev, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, the building will be used by restorers and cultural heritage specialists who lack space to work.

“The building will be used by restorers and cultural heritage protection and conservation specialists who now lack space to work. The execution of the court decision is aimed at the realization of strategic tasks for the preservation and effective use of cultural heritage objects,” said Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Sergey Belyaev.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications emphasizes that all actions are aimed at streamlining the use of state property and preventing its illegal use.
