Buzhansky: Lustration is a mistake on the part of the state

MP Maksym Buzhansky stated that he had advocated for the repeal of the lustration law, as he considers it unfair and a violation of people’s rights.
He made this statement in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the MP, there are legal mechanisms for changing the government, one of which is elections.
“Elections exist to purge the government of anyone. The political procedure for purging the government is elections,” Buzhansky explained.
He emphasized that the professional suitability of civil servants should be assessed by other means, not mass dismissals.
“A hallmark of totalitarian regimes is, first and foremost, collective responsibility. A person who has worked conscientiously cannot simply be stripped of their profession,” he noted.

The lawmaker also believes that the state has incurred financial losses due to lawsuits following the vetting process.
“People are winning lawsuits for wrongful termination and receiving back pay for the entire period. In other words, this law has provided no benefits,” said Buzhansky.
In his opinion, lustration was a mistake and a negative experience for the country.
“Lustration is a failed and, I would say, shameful chapter in our political life,” he emphasized.
