Private air defense units defending Ukrainian ports during Russian airstrikes have proven their effectiveness—the first enemy drones have been shot down.

Private air defense groups: Who are they?
These special units are formed from company employees, most of whom are veterans of full-scale war. The main goal of such groups is to protect critical infrastructure, particularly ports, which remain key targets for attacks.
Organizationally, these units are subordinate to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, over 900 port infrastructure facilities have been damaged or partially destroyed, including 177 civilian vessels. The intensity of drone attacks is increasing: in the first four months of last year, 75 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were recorded, while this year there have already been over 800.
Despite the constant threats, Ukrainian ports continue to operate.

Engaging the private sector
The private air defense project has already been supported by 24 Ukrainian companies in various regions of Ukraine. In late March, it was reported that one of the companies participating in the pilot project had formed its own unit, and 13 other enterprises are in the process of establishing similar units.
