After the shelling of the oil depot: Fuel sales have been completely suspended in Crimea
21 June 13:11
In annexed Crimea, following Ukrainian strikes on an oil depot and the Kerch crossing, the sale of fuel to citizens and businesses has been completely halted. The restrictions took effect at 9:00 a.m. on June 21 for both individuals and legal entities, according to Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian-appointed “governor” of the region. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.
Gasoline and diesel are no longer being sold at any gas stations on the peninsula, whether paid for in cash, by card, or with vouchers. According to Aksyonov, only “state services that ensure the functioning and security” of Crimea can obtain fuel. The region’s “head” did not specify how long the restrictions would remain in effect, noting only that “further decisions will be announced at a later date.”
The authorities also announced the temporary closure of the Kerch ferry crossing. The Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters reiterated the ban on heavy-duty trucks crossing the Crimean Bridge and recommended that drivers of such vehicles use Highway R-280 via Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Mariupol, Melitopol, and Simferopol. However, as early as May, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had brought this route under fire control and have been regularly attacking fuel tankers and trucks traveling along it.
On the night of June 21, the Ukrainian military struck the oil depot at the Kerch Commercial Port with drones; the facility is used for the storage and transshipment of petroleum products (fuel oil, diesel) across the Kerch Strait. This facility supplies ships and serves the “Crimea–Caucasus” ferry crossing. Aksyonov reported that four people were killed and 28 were injured.
The attack also caused a fire at an oil terminal in the village of Chushka in the Temryuk District of the Krasnodar Region, according to the operational headquarters. The facility is part of the infrastructure of the Port of Kavkaz—one of the largest transportation and logistics hubs in southern Russia. The port handles cargo transportation, export shipments, and ferry service to Crimea.
In addition, drones struck the “Panagia” ferry on the Kerch Strait crossing. According to the operational headquarters, one person was killed and another was injured as a result. The Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova claims that the ferry was being used to transport fuel tankers from the Port of Kavkaz to Crimea.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed strikes on targets on both sides of the Crimean Bridge: an oil depot in occupied Kerch and maritime logistics facilities for transporting oil in the Krasnodar Krai. In addition, he reported the destruction of air defense systems: four radar stations belonging to the S-400 complexes and two “Pantsir” complexes.
