Due to restrictions on electricity imports: businesses are advised to develop their own power generation

4 May 04:11

Relying solely on imports of European electricity, due to technical capacity constraints in the ENTSO-E networks, cannot fully protect Ukraine’s commercial and industrial sectors from the risk of blackouts; instead, the development of domestic decentralized capacity remains the reliable guarantee of uninterrupted operation, according to Anna Pozdnyakova, director of the engineering company RSE Group Ukraine, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" citing “Interfax-Ukraine.

“Imports are not a panacea for infrastructure deficits. Commercial quotas and physical grid limits do not allow for a 100% supply guarantee for all enterprises simultaneously. True energy independence and the continuity of production processes can only be ensured today by local distributed generation,” Pozdnyakova noted in her comment.

According to the company’s experts, electricity imports remain an important factor in balancing the national power grid; however, inter-state interconnections have strict capacity constraints (currently 2.45 GW – Ed.).

“During periods of peak loads—such as during the upcoming summer maintenance campaign and in the winter—European resources may prove physically unavailable or economically unfeasible to meet the needs of the entire business,” emphasized the director of RSE Group Ukraine.

She emphasized that local generating capacity completely eliminates enterprises’ dependence on external systemic factors.

As Pozdnyakova notes, to address this challenge, European practice offers hybrid engineering models: a combination of cogeneration plants with battery energy storage systems (BESS).

As reported, RSE s.r.o. is an international engineering company with its own production facility in Brno (Czech Republic), specializing in energy resilience solutions. It is an official partner for the supply and servicing of gas engines manufactured by MWM. RSE provides a full range of turnkey services: from modular cogeneration plants to industrial heat pumps and BESS. The installed capacity of the company’s completed projects in Europe and Ukraine exceeds 900 MW.

RSE Group Ukraine noted that the use of modern plug-and-play modular solutions allows businesses to quickly deploy their own power generation and completely mitigate risks associated with import restrictions.
