Ukrainian cheese has taken Britain by storm: KOMO has entered one of the most demanding markets
24 June 12:19
The Ukrainian cheese producer “Dubnomoloko,” whose products are sold under the KOMO brand, has officially launched sales in the United Kingdom. Ukrainian-made cheeses have already appeared on the shelves of local retail chains. This was announced on the company’s Facebook page, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The company described its entry into the British market as an important milestone in the brand’s development and the result of extensive preparation.
KOMO has become part of the British retail market
KOMO stated that “Dubnomoloko” has become the first Ukrainian cheese-processing company whose products have officially entered the British retail market.
The company emphasized that this was not a fluke but the result of systematic work by a large team.
To enter this new market, the manufacturer had to confirm that its products met strict food safety requirements, obtain certification, and adapt its internal processes to international trade standards.
BRCGS certification was the key to entering the market
One of the main prerequisites for launching sales was certification under the BRCGS standard—an international system for controlling the safety, quality, and legality of food products.
The BRCGS standard is widely recognized by leading international brands and retail chains. It covers the control of product safety, production processes, raw materials, packaging, product traceability, and the prevention of food fraud.
For the Ukrainian manufacturer, obtaining this certification was the key to partnering with British retailers.
Preparation took over a year
The company’s preparation for the certification audit took more than a year. During this time, the company carried out a large-scale adaptation of its production model.
The work included:
- strengthening controls over raw milk;
- inspection of all stages of production;
- improving the product traceability system;
- adapting packaging to market requirements;
- updating approaches to product storage;
- reviewing logistics processes;
- preparing employees for international audits.
KOMO noted that certification was not merely a formality. It actually required the company to restructure its operations in accordance with the rules of one of the world’s most demanding food markets.
Why is the British market considered one of the strictest?
The United Kingdom has high standards for food safety, labeling, quality, and origin.
A manufacturer must not only confirm the compliance of the finished product but also ensure control over the entire supply chain—from receiving raw materials to delivering products to store shelves.
Any significant deviation from established standards can lead to the suspension of shipments or the loss of a contract with a retail chain.
That is why a Ukrainian cheese manufacturer’s entry into this market can be considered a significant achievement for the domestic food industry.

The war has complicated logistics
Organizing shipments from Ukraine to the United Kingdom amid a full-scale war has posed a particular challenge for the company.
Ukrainian exporters are forced to account for the risks of air raid alerts, infrastructure damage, route changes, border delays, and difficulties in predicting delivery times.
For dairy products, logistics stability is particularly important, as transportation requires strict adherence to temperature control and specific timeframes.
Despite these challenges, KOMO has managed to establish a supply chain that meets the requirements of the British retail sector.
What cheeses does KOMO offer to British shoppers?
Products from KOMO’s main and most popular lines are shipped to the UK.
The brand specializes in producing hard and processed cheeses made from Ukrainian milk. The company positions its products as a combination of traditional cheese-making, modern technologies, and quality control.
KOMO’s arrival in British stores allows local shoppers to discover Ukrainian dairy products and strengthens Ukraine’s presence in the international food market.

KOMO produces millions of kilograms of cheese
The manufacturer of KOMO brand products is PrJSC “Dubnomoloko,” located in the Rivne region.
According to the company, the enterprise produces annually:
- over 15 million kg of hard cheeses;
- about 4 million kg of processed cheese.
The company’s products are sold in Ukraine and exported to foreign markets. Entering the UK market is expected to expand the brand’s sales geography and strengthen its export position.
