24 June 09:27
Border and customs clearance procedures at the Ukrainian-Slovak border will be temporarily slowed down. The restrictions will apply to the “Mali Selmentse–Velke Slemence” international border crossing . This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Technical work will be carried out at the crossing. As a result, citizens are warned of possible delays and lines.
When to Expect Delays at the Border with Slovakia
A temporary slowdown in inspection and clearance procedures is expected during the period:
- June 25 through 27, 2026, inclusive.
The border crossing point will not be completely closed. However, due to the work, the speed of processing travelers may decrease.
Delays are possible when crossing the border, both when leaving Ukraine and when entering the country.
Which border crossing is affected by the restrictions
Technical work will be carried out at the “Mali Selmentse – Velke Slemence” international border crossing on the border between Ukraine and Slovakia.
This is a pedestrian and bicycle crossing in Zakarpattia Oblast. It is used by citizens crossing the border on foot or by bicycle.
Due to limited capacity, even a slight slowdown in procedures could lead to a buildup of people in front of the checkpoint.
Why will the processing of citizens be slowed down?
The temporary inconvenience is due to a planned modernization of border and customs infrastructure.
Over the course of three days, specialists will carry out:
- installation work on the premises of the checkpoint;
- temporarily reconnecting utility lines;
- technical configuration of infrastructure components.
Due to this work, certain procedures may take longer than usual.

Ukrainians are urged to change their route
Border guards recommend taking potential delays into account when planning trips to Slovakia.
Those who do not want to wait long are advised to choose other border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Slovak border whenever possible.
Before traveling, it’s also a good idea to check current traffic conditions at the border crossings and allow extra time for border control.
What alternative border crossings are available?
Depending on their mode of transportation and route, travelers may consider other border crossings with Slovakia.
For road travel, the following are used, in particular:
- “Uzhhorod — Vyšné Nemecké”;
- “Maly Berezny — Ublya.”
Before choosing an alternative route, you should check the operating hours of the specific border crossing and the types of vehicles allowed to cross there.
What to Consider Before Your Trip
Citizens planning to cross the border via “Malyi Selmentsi — Velke Slemence” from June 25 to 27 are advised to:
- arrive with plenty of time to spare;
- be prepared for possible lines;
- prepare documents in advance;
- follow announcements from border guards;
- postpone the trip or change the route if possible.
