For the second week in a row: Strawberry prices are falling rapidly in Ukraine
4 June 10:14
Prices for local strawberries in Ukraine have been falling for the second week in a row, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Experts cite the rapid increase in the supply of this berry from the southern regions of the country as the main reason for this situation. At the same time, producers describe demand as subdued.
As a result, amid fierce competition, growers are forced to continue gradually lowering their selling prices for this perishable product. Currently, Ukrainian producers are offering strawberries at prices ranging from 120 to 200 UAH/kg ($2.71–4.52/kg), which is on average 21% cheaper than a week earlier.
According to farmers, they are forced to lower selling prices primarily due to the increased supply of this berry on the market. Additionally, the growing supply of imported strawberries from Greece, Turkey, and Spain is putting significant pressure on prices, as these imports typically cost no more than 200 UAH/kg ($4.52/kg).
It is worth noting that as of today , strawberries on the Ukrainian market are offered at an average price 11% higher than at the beginning of June last year. At the same time, most market participants agree that prices for this product may drop even more significantly starting next week, when open-field strawberries begin to hit the market in large quantities.
