The U.S. House of Representatives voted to continue consideration of a petition to provide military aid to Ukraine and impose tough sanctions against Russia, Republican Congressman Don Bacon announced. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
The vote passed with a result of 218 to 204. According to Bacon, the House of Representatives will vote on the final adoption of this decision as early as tomorrow.

In his post, Bacon called what is happening a “Churchill moment” for America (a political metaphor denoting a critical moment in history when a leader or nation must demonstrate uncompromising courage, resilience, and the ability to rally allies to fight against an overwhelming evil or global threat. — Ed.)
The Fight for Military Aid to Ukraine
A group of senators from both parties sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset late last week demanding the immediate allocation of $600 million in aid to Ukraine and other allies in Eastern Europe. The Pentagon, however, stated that partner countries’ contributions to the PURL program are sufficient to continue supplying Ukraine with critically important weapons.
Meanwhile, European allies are increasingly concerned about the viability of the PURL program: the war against Iran is rapidly depleting U.S. stockpiles, and a number of donor countries have questioned the transparency of the Pentagon’s spending of allocated funds.
In early May, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the war in Ukraine continues because his predecessor, Joseph Biden, allegedly provided Kyiv with $350 billion in financial aid. In late April, King Charles III of the United Kingdom, speaking before the U.S. Congress, called for “resolute support” for Ukraine amid global instability.
An important signal for Ukraine
However, the release of funds does not mean an immediate delivery of weapons to the front lines. The timeline will depend on exactly which systems and equipment are procured under the program, as well as on the speed at which contracts are finalized with manufacturers.
This is an important signal for Ukraine, as U.S. aid remains critical for its defense, particularly regarding ammunition, air defense systems, long-range capabilities, and support for Ukrainian forces amid massive Russian attacks.
At the same time, the delay itself highlights a political risk for Kyiv. Even funds already approved in the U.S. may undergo additional reviews and depend on internal disputes in Washington. For Ukraine, this means the need to strengthen European support and its own defense production.
