Dynamo defeated Chernihiv and won the Ukrainian Cup

Kyiv’s Dynamo won the 2025/26 Ukrainian Cup. In the final, held on May 20 at Arena Lviv, the capital club defeated Chernihiv 3–1. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the UAF.

Vitaliy Buyalskyi was the star of the match, scoring twice, while Andriy Yarmolenko netted the third goal for Kyiv.

How the Ukrainian Cup Final Unfolded

The Ukrainian Cup final between Chernihiv and Dynamo kicked off on May 20 at 6:00 p.m. For Chernihiv, it was a historic match: the First League team reached the tournament final for the first time and became one of the season’s biggest surprises.

In the first half, Dynamo had more of the momentum and opened the scoring in the 26th minute. Vitaliy Buyalskyi scored the first goal of the match.

However, “Chernihiv” responded quickly. In the 34th minute, following a set piece, Anatoliy Romanchenko headed the ball into the Kyiv team’s net to tie the score at 1-1.

After the break, Dynamo once again increased the pressure on their opponents. As early as the 53rd minute, Vitaliy Buyalskyi scored his second goal and restored Kyiv’s lead.

In the 70th minute, Andriy Yarmolenko set the final score. His goal gave Dynamo a comfortable lead—3:1. The final ended with exactly that score.

Chernihiv’s historic goal

Despite the loss, “Chernihiv” left a lasting impression in this edition of the Ukrainian Cup. The team became the first lower-division representative since 2019 to reach the tournament final, matching “Ingulets’” achievement.

Anatoliy Romanchenko’s goal was also special for the club: Chernihiv managed to score against a representative of the Ukrainian football elite in the Ukrainian Cup final and kept the match exciting for a while.

What the victory means for Dynamo

The Ukrainian Cup is the country’s second-most prestigious soccer tournament. For the Kyiv club, this is its 14th Ukrainian Cup in history. In terms of tournament wins, Dynamo has closed in on Shakhtar, which holds 15 such trophies.

The victory grants the right to participate in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.
