Electric cars in Ukraine: where they are most often purchased and which models are popular

23 April 15:12

In the first quarter of 2026, 5,968 electric passenger cars were added to Ukraine’s vehicle fleet. This was reported by Ukravtoprom, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The Lviv region, Kyiv, the Kyiv region, the Volyn region, and the Dnipropetrovsk region showed the highest activity in the market. These regions led in the number of electric car registrations, and, as before, the main demand was driven by used cars imported from abroad.

Where in Ukraine are the most electric vehicles purchased?

The Lviv region led in the number of registrations—667 electric vehicles were registered there in January–March, and 91% of them were used.

In second place is the city of Kyiv with 656 vehicles, 56% of which were used.

Third place went to the Kyiv region, where 502 electric cars were registered, 69% of which were used.

The top five also included Volyn Oblast with 443 registrations, where the share of used cars reached 96%, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with 378 electric vehicles, 68% of which were imported used cars.

Which new electric vehicles are the most popular

The new electric vehicle segment in Ukraine is dominated by models from the Chinese brand BYD.

In Lviv and Volyn regions, the BYD Sea Lion 06 was the most frequently registered model.

In the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the BYD Leopard 3 took the lead, while in Kyiv, the most popular new electric car was the BYD Yuan Up.

Nationwide, the BYD Leopard 3 also led the new electric vehicle market in the first quarter, followed by the Zeekr 001, BYD Sea Lion 06, Volkswagen ID.UNYX, and Volkswagen ID.4.

This indicates that the Ukrainian market for new electric cars is increasingly focused on Chinese brands and new models that are actively entering the electric vehicle segment.

Which used electric vehicles do Ukrainians choose

In the segment of used electric vehicles imported from abroad, Tesla and Nissan models lead the way.

In the Lviv and Kyiv regions, the Tesla Model 3 was the most popular choice.

In Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the Tesla Model Y was the most popular.

In Volyn, the Nissan Leaf remained the leader among used electric cars.

In the nationwide ranking of used electric vehicles for the first quarter, the Nissan Leaf also led the way, followed by the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Renault Zoe, and Kia Niro.

What’s happening with the electric vehicle market in Ukraine

Despite activity in certain regions, the electric vehicle market as a whole in the first quarter of 2026 was lower than last year.

According to Ukravtoprom, 5,968 electric vehicles were registered in Ukraine over three months, which is 56% fewer than during the same period last year. Of these, 1,385 were new, and 4,583 were used.

At the same time, the structure of demand remains stable: Ukrainians tend to buy used electric vehicles because they are more affordable.
