Hail, squalls, and heavy downpours: Six regions of Ukraine will be hit by severe weather

On July 9, a sharp deterioration in weather conditions is expected in parts of Ukraine. Forecasters predict heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls, prompting a yellow danger alert in six regions. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Which regions will be affected by the severe weather

According to forecasters, adverse weather conditions are expected in:

  • Sumy Oblast;
  • Kharkiv Oblast;
  • Poltava region;
  • Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
  • Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
  • Kherson Oblast.

During the day, thunderstorms, hail, and wind gusts of 15–20 m/s are forecast in some areas of the eastern regions and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

A yellow danger level has been declared

Due to the expected severe weather, meteorologists have issued a Level I (yellow) hazard alert.

The State Emergency Service warns that difficult weather conditions may:

  • complicate the operations of energy companies;
  • impact operations in the construction and utilities sectors;
  • cause difficulties for road traffic.

Rescue workers recommend staying away from trees, billboards, and power lines during severe weather, and advise drivers to be especially careful on the roads.

What will the temperature be on July 9?

According to meteorologist Natalia Didenko’s forecast, daytime temperatures in most regions of Ukraine are expected to range from 18 to 24°C.

Air temperatures by region:

  • South — up to 26°C;
  • Luhansk and Donetsk regions — 27–30°C;
  • Western regions — only 17–19°C.

Thus, it will be warmest in the east of the country, while the western regions will remain under the influence of a cooler air mass.
