Payments for Independence Day are already being processed—some will receive between 450 and 3,100 UAH
19 August 06:57
In August 2026, war veterans, family members of fallen defenders, and other categories of citizens specified by law will receive a one-time cash payment in time for Ukraine’s Independence Day. The amount ranges from 450 to 3,100 hryvnias, depending on the recipient’s status.
The Pension Fund of Ukraine announced the calculation mechanism. The specific amounts were approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 602 of May 13, 2026, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The PFU emphasizes that this year, the list of categories eligible for automatic payment has been expanded. At the same time, eligibility for the payment depends not only on a person’s status but also on whether they receive a pension, subsidy, or benefit, and whether they are serving in the military.
Who Will Receive Automatic Payments
Citizens who are eligible for assistance and receive the following do not need to contact the Pension Fund separately:
- a pension or a monthly lifetime allowance;
- a housing subsidy;
- a benefit for housing and utility services.
A mandatory requirement is that the person must not be serving in any capacity, including military service.
For these recipients, the assistance will be paid in August along with their pension, subsidy, or discount. Pensioners will receive the money in the same bank account or through the same Ukrposhta branch where they receive their pension payments.
No separate application, registration, or opening of a new account is required for automatic payment.
How military personnel will receive the money
A separate procedure applies to active-duty war veterans. This rule also applies to service members who are simultaneously pensioners or recipients of housing subsidies or benefits.
Funds for them will be directed to the accounts of military units, institutions, and organizations at their place of service.
The Pension Fund advises military personnel to ensure that their unit or institution has up-to-date information regarding their status as war veterans.
Payments are also made through military units and institutions to police officers, employees of the Judicial Security Service, enlisted personnel and officers, and other specified categories of active-duty personnel.
Who Needs to File an Application Themselves
A person who is eligible for benefits but:
- do not receive a pension or a monthly lifetime cash allowance;
- are not recipients of a housing subsidy;
- do not receive a utility bill discount;
- are not performing military or other mandatory service as required by law.
For this specific category of citizens, the payment will not be automatically added to their pension, subsidy, or financial allowance.
What amounts will be paid by Independence Day
Not all veterans will receive the maximum amount of 3,100 hryvnias. The amount of assistance depends on the veteran’s designated status.

| Persons with war-related disabilities, Group I | 3,100 UAH |

The main deadline has passed, but applications will still be accepted
The main deadline for submitting applications ended on August 1, 2026. However, citizens who were unable to apply on time may submit their documents by October 1, 2026.
This means that the right to assistance is not necessarily lost after missing the main deadline. However, it is not advisable to wait until the last few days to apply, especially if the payment is not calculated automatically.
A separate rule applies to people who acquire the relevant status by August 24, 2026. If they have not received the payment by October 1, they can submit an application to the Pension Fund of Ukraine and receive the payment by November 1.

How to Submit an Application to the Pension Fund
The Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) has provided four ways to submit documents:
- in person at a selected Pension Fund service center;
- through the Administrative Services Center (ASC) at your declared or registered place of residence or stay;
- by mail to the address of the relevant territorial office of the Pension Fund;
- online via the Pension Fund’s e-services web portal.
To submit an electronic application, you must sign the application with a qualified electronic signature.
The application may be submitted in any format. It must include:
- the details of the identification document;
- the taxpayer’s registration number, if available;
- the bank account number for receiving funds;
- details of the certificate confirming eligibility for payment.
You must attach a copy of your passport or temporary Ukrainian citizen ID and a copy of the document confirming your special status to the application. If you submit the application in person, you must bring the originals with you.
What to Do If the Payment Has Not Been Received
The procedure depends on the recipient’s category:
- Pensioners, subsidy recipients, and those eligible for benefits who are not currently serving in the military should check their August payment;
- military personnel should confirm whether their military unit or institution has information regarding their veteran status;
- Citizens who do not receive a pension, subsidy, or benefit and are not currently serving in the military must submit an application on their own;
- those who obtained their status by August 24 but did not receive the assistance by October 1 should contact the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) to ensure payment by November 1.
It is important to note that 3,100 hryvnias is the maximum amount of assistance, not a uniform amount for everyone. Depending on their status, most recipients will receive 450, 650, 1,000, 2,700, or 2,900 hryvnias.
