The intense phase of the war could end by November: what Zelenskyy told lawmakers

25 May 22:51

During a meeting with the “Servant of the People” faction, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the active phase of the war could end by November. This was reported by Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, a member of parliament from the “Servant of the People” faction, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

What Zelenskyy said about the end of the active phase of the war

According to Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, a significant portion of the meeting was devoted specifically to the prospect of ending the active phase of the war.

The lawmaker stated that the president spoke about the possibility of ending active hostilities by November, but only on the condition that Ukraine receives real security guarantees.

“The lion’s share of the time was devoted to the prospect of ending the active phase of the war. The president noted that, provided security guarantees are given, the possibility of ending the active phase by November is being considered,” Vasilevska-Smaglyuk recounted.

According to her, Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine’s main task is to prevent Russia from using a possible lull to prepare a new offensive.

Why security guarantees are a key condition

The main risk for Ukraine is that Russia could use any temporary pause not to achieve real peace, but to regroup, rebuild its forces, and launch a new attack.

“Right now, we have an advantage on the front lines that we can capitalize on. The main goal is to prevent Russia from deceiving us and launching new hostilities or a new offensive after a brief pause,” the MP emphasized.

That is precisely why, according to the lawmaker, the president stressed: the end of the active phase is possible only when mechanisms are established that will prevent Russia from deceiving Ukraine and its partners.

What’s happening with the peace track

Vasylevska-Smaglyuk reported that during the meeting, they also discussed expectations from Europe regarding a moderator for the peace process.

In addition, she said, an American delegation is expected to arrive in the near future.

According to her, Zelenskyy said that Europe is expected to designate a moderator for the peace track, and that an American delegation is expected to arrive “in the near future.”

What Arakhamia said about the meeting

Davyd Arakhamia, head of the “Servant of the People” faction, reported that during the meeting with the president, they discussed the war, challenges for the economy, and the state’s main tasks for the coming period. According to him, the next six months should be a time of maximum focus and stabilization of the country’s operations.

Arakhamia emphasized that among the priorities are support for the army, the stability of state institutions, timely payments to citizens, and the functioning of the energy sector, the economy, and local self-government.

Meanwhile, in an evening video address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the meeting with the MPs and the prime minister but was more reserved, noting only that the conversation had outlined “priorities for these weeks and the near future.”

In contrast, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of parliament from the “Holos” faction, expressed skepticism regarding the forecasts that were announced.

The MP noted that theoretical timeframes for the end of hostilities have been mentioned repeatedly at meetings, but have previously failed to match reality.

“I thought about writing it down [the probable date for the theoretical end of the war announced by Zelenskyy]… But, considering that it was mentioned at every meeting and never matched reality, there’s no point,” the MP noted.

According to him, the date in question was November 2026, but “even those present didn’t really believe it.”
