A New Media Giant: Paramount Skydance Has Received Approval to Acquire Warner Bros. Discovery

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has issued a ruling that could significantly reshape the global film industry. Paramount Skydance Corporation has been granted approval for the indirect acquisition of control over Warner Bros. Discovery. The decision was made on May 21.
This was reported by the AMCU press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the AMCU press service, permission was granted for the indirect acquisition of control through Prince Sub Inc., a company based in Wilmington, Delaware, United States.
As stated in the press release:
“Paramount Skydance Corporation has been granted permission to indirectly acquire control over Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. through Prince Sub Inc. (Wilmington, Delaware, United States).”

This decision became possible after Netflix withdrew its offer to buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
What is known about the Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery deal
Back on February 27, it was reported that Netflix, which had been competing for control of Warner Bros., had withdrawn its offer.
Negotiations regarding a potential merger had been ongoing since December 5, 2025, when Netflix first announced its plans to acquire Warner Bros. However, in January 2026, Paramount attempted to block the merger. Netflix responded by raising its offer and making it an all-cash deal.
Movie theaters in the European Union and both major political parties in the U.S. have expressed concern about the potential consequences of such a merger for the film industry. They warned that the acquisition of Warner Bros. by Netflix or Paramount could harm the industry.
