Indexation from March 1: how much will pensions increase?

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the government is ready to ensure annual pension indexation starting March 1.

He announced this on Telegram following a meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the head of state, pensions and insurance payments will be indexed by 12.1%. The increase will affect about 10 million citizens.

Who is affected by the increase

This applies to both pension payments and insurance payments within the compulsory state social insurance system.

The president stressed that the state is ensuring indexation even in the context of full-scale war and continues to fulfill its social obligations.

Context of the meeting

During the meeting, the parties also agreed on a sequence of steps to approve updated plans for the sustainability of regions and the energy system.

According to Zelenskyy, a strategy for preparing for next winter will be determined in the near future, taking into account the experience of communities that have demonstrated better efficiency in getting through the current heating season.

Financing

Earlier, the government approved the budget of the Pension Fund of Ukraine for 2026 with a total volume of revenues and expenditures of UAH 1,263.3 billion.

Of this amount

  • UAH 1,001.9 billion is earmarked directly for pension payments;
  • UAH 63.8 billion is allocated for social insurance payments in connection with temporary disability and industrial accidents.

When pensions are indexed in Ukraine

Pensions in Ukraine are indexed annually, taking into account the level of inflation and the growth of the average salary.

The government positions the decision on indexation as a signal of maintaining basic social guarantees even in times of crisis.
