Ukrainians bought 6,200 new cars in a month: which brands are leading the way

In April 2026, Ukrainians purchased approximately 6,200 new passenger cars. This is 5% more than in March and 3% more than in April of last year. This was reported by “Ukravtoprom,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the association, the market for new passenger cars continued to grow moderately, despite fluctuations in demand and varying trends among brands.
How many new cars did Ukrainians buy in April
Approximately 6,200 new passenger cars were sold in Ukraine during April
Compared to March 2026, sales rose by 5%. On a year-over-year basis, i.e., compared to April 2025, the market grew by 3%.
This indicates a gradual recovery in demand for new cars, although the situation varies by brand.
Toyota became the most popular brand
Toyota was the leader in April. Ukrainians purchased 760 new cars of this brand.
Compared to April 2025, Toyota’s sales increased by 7%.
The brand traditionally holds a strong position in the Ukrainian market thanks to the popularity of its crossovers and hybrid models, its reputation for reliability, and high resale value.
Renault Duster — the month’s bestseller
The Renault Duster was the most popular model in April.
This compact crossover remains one of the top favorites among Ukrainian buyers thanks to its combination of an affordable price, practicality, ground clearance, ease of maintenance, and suitability for Ukrainian roads.
Demand for the Duster also confirms a broader trend: Ukrainians are increasingly choosing crossovers and off-road vehicles.

The top ten most popular car brands in April included Toyota, Renault, Skoda, BYD, BMW, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan, and Suzuki.

BYD’s growth demonstrates increasing interest in Chinese electric vehicles and hybrids, while BMW’s strong performance indicates stable demand in the premium segment.
Who Lost Ground
At the same time, not all brands showed growth. Sales declined in April:
- Volkswagen — -23%;
- Skoda — -18%;
- Suzuki — -30%;
- Nissan — -3%.
The reasons may vary: changes in dealer inventory, price competition, fluctuations in demand for specific models, model line updates, or a shift in buyer interest toward other brands.
How many new cars have been sold since the start of the year
Since the beginning of 2026, over 21,500 new passenger cars have been sold in Ukraine
This is 7% more than during the same period in 2025.
This result indicates a gradual recovery of the new car market, although it remains sensitive to exchange rates, prices, logistics, the security situation, and the purchasing power of Ukrainians.
