Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine has partially paralyzed air traffic in Poland: what happened
16 April 05:55
Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine on the night of April 15 affected not only Ukrainian cities but also air traffic in neighboring Poland. In response to the threat, Polish authorities temporarily suspended air operations at the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów and deployed fighter jets to protect their airspace.
This is stated in a report by the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How Russia’s attack on Ukraine affected airports in Poland
Due to the need to ensure freedom of action for military aviation, Poland has temporarily restricted the operation of part of its civil aviation infrastructure. In particular, air operations have been suspended at the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów.
The Polish Air Navigation Services explained that this decision was made specifically in light of Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine and the need to ensure safe conditions for military aviation operations.
Thus, Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine has partially paralyzed air traffic in Poland, as operations at two major airports have been temporarily suspended.
Poland scrambled fighter jets due to the threat
In addition to suspending airport operations, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command decided to scramble fighter jets. This move was aimed at protecting Polish airspace amid a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
This indicates that the consequences of Russia’s massive strikes on Ukrainian territory could also affect the security situation in neighboring countries, especially those bordering Ukraine.
What is known about the massive shelling of Ukraine on April 15
On the evening of April 15, Russian forces launched attack drones at Ukraine. Some of them were heading toward Odesa. It is known that one of the drones struck a residential high-rise building.
There were also reports of the aftermath of the strike on Dnipro. Two children—a three-year-old and an 18-month-old boy—were injured in the attack. It later emerged that the total number of casualties had risen to three. In addition to the children, a 38-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized. Her condition was assessed as moderate.
How many missiles and drones did Russia launch at Ukraine
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on April 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Russian forces carried out a combined attack on Ukraine, using over 20 missiles and 349 drones.
As a result of this attack, 12 hits were recorded, as well as the fall of debris from downed aerial targets. It was the scale of the shelling that prompted a heightened response from Poland, which borders Ukraine and must take into account the risks to its airspace.
